Temas de trabajo

El grupo desarrolla numerosas líneas de investigación relacionadas con el tratamiento de aguas, como adsorción, tecnologías de membranas, tratamientos biológicos y procesos avanzados de oxidación para el tratamiento de aguas con contaminantes no biodegradables como fotocatálisis, fotoelectrocatálisis, procesos tipo-Fenton y procesos electro-catalíticos. En buena parte de ellos la investigación va dirigida al diseño de catalizadores heterogéneos de elevada actividad y estabilidad y que presenten mejoras con respecto a los catalizadores convencionales para el tratamiento de aguas residuales industriales y urbanas y con especial interés en el diseño de foto-reactores. Las tecnologías desarrolladas se han aplicado para la eliminación de compuestos orgánicos de baja biodegradabilidad de aguas residuales industriales, la eliminación de contaminantes emergentes de los efluentes del tratamiento biológico de diferentes EDAR o de cauces naturales y en procesos de desinfección.

También se trabaja en el diseño de procesos termoquímicos (hidrólisis, carbonización hidrotermal, oxidación húmeda, etc.) para la valorización de lodos, reactores fotobiolectroquímicos para la recuperación de los sustratos y nutrientes de aguas residuales, humedales electroquímicos como soluciones naturales de depuración y acoplamiento de procesos de oxidación avanzada con sistemas biológicos para la depuración de efluentes acuosos residuales.
